#1 Wet your tattoo.
Use warm water, at least initially, as water that is too hot will be painful and can open pores and cause the ink to leak. Instead of sticking your tattoo directly under the faucet, hold your hand and carefully pour water over it.
Do not rub or use a towel, just hold your hand carefully. If there is a hard scab, don't peel it off, it will fall off on its own. They know you're done washing when the tattoo is no longer slippery to the touch.
Use your hands for a glass of water and rinse off the foam or soap. Flushing of blood or ink may occur during the first few days, but this is normal.
Once your tattoo is completely dry, use a cream/oil or conditioner to moisturize and keep your tattoo healthy. Apply a small amount of moisturizer in a thin layer. Too much lotion can affect the healing of your tattoo.
