• You would start with education. At least high school education in a related field is required to qualify as a commercial electrician. You also need to get your GED certificate to stand among equals.

• Get a list of the electrical apprenticeship program in your state department of labor. This can be provided by individual employers, unions, or country.

• Gain experience with working with a contractor for a minimum of four years. This will allow you to gain the experience necessary in case you want to build your own. Requirements to operate as a commercial electrician may vary by country, but you are expected to complete no less than 2,000 hours of training on-the-job every year.
