Five Great Family Movies For Parents of Tweens

It can sometimes be tricky to find television shows or films which are of interest to both tweens and their parents because their tastes are usually considerably different. This is particularly true in light of the massive number of distractions which dominate tweens’ attention, many of which are linked to electronics that parents might find it tough to compete with.

However, it’s well worth the effort, because finding some family movies that will appeal to both tweens and parents can be a excellent means of enjoying some time, and finishing all those other outside distractions, at least for a couple of hours. With that in mind, here are five of the best family movies for tweens and their parents to watch together, and enjoy some family time.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial This classic by Steven Spielberg is one of those all-time great family pictures, and it tells a remarkable tale which emphasizes caring, trust, and devotion, all of which are wonderful themes for families to take into account. The storyline itself is a powerful one, which comprises some moments of risk, some very touching scenes, a couple of comic relief stretches, and more than a little cinematic magic.

Viewers can not help but be charmed by the terrific friendship that develops between E.T. and among the movie’s most important child celebrities, Elliott. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone This is the very first film in the Harry Potter series, and it is a really good one. There are a few scary moments contained in the plot, the majority of which are attributable to the story’s fantastic creatures, and the 11-yr old kids do sustain a few minor injuries, but no one is seriously hurt.

This story sets the stage for several of the stories that follow, and it plays into each young person’s desire to work magic and also to have the capacity to influence objects in the world around them. The Nightmare Before Christmas This classic, stop-action animated film from famed director Tim Burton is superbly creepy, with all types of offbeat characters which are out of the ordinary.

One of the terrific animated family movies of all time, this movie does a completely distinctive take on the holiday, from the view of those strange and terrific characters which exist nowhere else but in the mind of Mr. Burton. A Hard Day’s Night This might be the best way to present your tweens into the best rock’n roll band in history, The Beatles.

If this movie was made, the group had already triggered the global mania that characterized their whole reign as the world’s hottest band. Besides their natural charm and wit, you and your tweens will also enjoy some of the best music created from this age, or some other. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory There’s a whole lot of dark comedy in this Roald Dahl classic, but it is highly imaginative and wonderful fun for everyone viewing the movie.

As family movies go, this one includes some perilous scenes that affect lots of the kids in the story, but everything works out fine in the long run, so your kids won’t be bothered by anything in particular. Gene Wilder adds a beautiful presence to the movie, since the host directing all the children throughout the chocolate factory.
