Electricians who work on commercial buildings must provide the electrical needs of the tenants as well as ensure that the ventilation, cooling, and heating system of the building is working at optimum levels.

• You would start with education. At least high school education in a related field is required to qualify as a commercial electrician. You also need to get your GED certificate to stand among equals.

• Get a list of the electrical apprenticeship program in your state department of labor. This can be provided by individual employers, unions, or country.

• Gain experience with working with a contractor for a minimum of four years. This will allow you to gain the experience necessary in case you want to build your own. Requirements to operate as a commercial electrician may vary by country, but you are expected to complete no less than 2,000 hours of training on-the-job every year.

• Every state has minimum requirements for class instructions. It ranges from 130 hours to 150 hours per year, depending on the country. Lecture delivered within a month during the winter period when the construction work is slow.
